Governor of Khelvachauri and his deputy are detained

Governor of Khelvachauri and his deputy were detained in their study by the officers of Anticorruption Agency within the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Questioning of Governor Levan Lortkipanidze and his deputy Nodar Sharabidze began at 10 o’clock in the morning.

According to the information on the official web-page http://www.police.ge/ of the Ministry Of Internal Affairs, detainees are charged with an abuse of their official duties and committing of   official falseness.

“According to an investigation  Levan Lortkipanidze and Nodar Sharabidze gave advantage to  one of the entrepreneurs  who  essentially violated legal interests of the state and gave a great deal of financial  damage to state budget.

Particularly, from one of the companies that was conducting  building and repairing activities  of cultural centers and nursery-schools in the villages Tkhilnari and Chalnari of Khelvachauri region, had given uncompleted jobs with old date but they wrote in the document as completed job and paid a  total sum to the company”- we read in the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ statement.

During the questioning, Nodar Sharabidze, deputy of Governor felt bad and he was taken from building by the workers of ambulance.  At first, he was taken to the medical center “Medina”, but yesterday morning, he was taken to Tbilisi from Batumi by an ambulance car. His transportation was accompanied by the patrol police. Nodar Sharabidze has got some heart problems.

Murman Dumbadze, the vice-speaker of Georgian Parliament, Avtandil Beridze-chairmen of Adjara Council together with the majority members of Council was there to support the detainee.

Murman Dumbadze, Georgia MP: “The form of detention is unacceptable. Other facts are also dubious. He will collaborate with the investigation and everything will be clear”.

Yesterday, at the end of the day, Malkhaz Partenadze chairman of Khelvachauri Municipal Assembly was interrogated too. From interests of investigation, he did no comment. The only fact he confirmed was that the issue was in connection with constructions.

Levan Lortkipanidze, the detained governor of Khelvacahuri, does not plead himself guilty. The time charging him expires on 15 March at 10 o’clock.

Levan Lortkipanidze worked as a governor of Khelvachauri for 2 months and 2 weeks. Municipal Assembly proved his candidacy on this position unanimously December 31, 2012. Before this Lortkipanidze was the Head of Khelvachauri election staff from coalition “Georgian Dream”.
