Photo-reporters Irakli Gedenidze, Giorgi Abdaladze and Zurab Kurtsikidze Discharged from Accusation

March 28, 2013

Photographers charged for espionage in favor of a foreign country were discharged from accusation and criminal record. Minister of Corrections and Legal Assistance of Georgia Sozar Subari said the National Probation Commission made relevant decision and Irakli Gedenidze, Giorgi Abdaladze and Zurab Kurtsikidze were discharged.

“Crimes committed by Saakashvili will remain as a shame and pain of our country for a long time. One of those shames was so-called photographers’ case. Previous government accused not only those people of espionage, but even the organizations they worked for. Unless society and journalists had protested the fact, the photographers would have stayed in prison before October 1, 2012,” Sozar Subari said.

Irakli Gedenidze, Giorgi Abdaladze and Zurab Kurtsikidze thanked to the society for their support and noted that criminal record hampered their professional activities because they could not get accreditation at public agencies.

Photographers Girogi Abdaladze, Zurab Kurtsikidze, Irakli Gedenidze and his wife Natia Gedenidze were arrested and judged for the espionage of a foreign country on July 7, 2011. In November of 2012 Natia Gedenidze was discharged from accusation.
