A visit to Zugdidi Penitentiary Establishment #4

On April 17, 2013 Ucha Nanuashvili the Public Defender of Georgia visited inmates and administration of Zugdidi Penitentiary Establishment #4. 

According to Public Defender, the treatment of inmates has been transformed radically. However, the conditions of the Establishment do not comply with relevant standards. In spite of the fact that there are only 156 inmates, their further allocation in the institution is impermissible. Public Defender considers it crucial to commence the construction of a new establishment on the territory of Samegrelo immediately; the construction of a new institution in other region may cause problems to family members of the inmates. 

Public Defender of Georgia addresses the Minister of Corrections, Probation and Legal Assistance of Georgia to resolve the problem of Zugdidi Penitentiary Establishment #4 in order to ensure inmates serve their sentence in dignity.
