Giorgi Sibashvili Blames Prosecutor’s Office in Purposeful Prolonging of His Case Discussion

June 17, 2013

Telavi district court continues substantial discussion of Giorgi Sibashvili’s case, former deputy governor of Kakheti region. At the trial on June 13, he blamed the Kakheti regional prosecutor’s office in purposeful prolonging the discussion of his case. Sibashvili said prosecutor interrogates only one or two witnesses during trial while they have to question about 50 witnesses in total.

Prosecutor Khvicha Begiashvili did not agree with the allegation and said Sibashvili’s complaints are groundless.

“Sibashvili’s complaint is really groundless because substantial discussion of his case is going on in ordinary regime. We have questioned 10 witnesses already. The case includes many episodes and we have to question about 50 witnesses. We try to maximally study the evidence during each trial,” said Begiashvili.

Investigation unit blames Sibashvili in the abuse of his authority, illicit misappropriation and waste of state property that is punishable by 11-year-imprisonment. Former deputy governor was fined with 15 000 lari as a preventive measure.

Telavi district court discusses cases of the director of Kakheti Regional Development Agency Valeri Gremelashvili, head of Building Company Khidi Zakaria Tatunashvili and individual entrepreneur Aslan Garsevanishvili together with Sibashvili’s case. Gremelashvili was accused of the abuse of authority and waste of large amount of money. Tatunashvili and Garsevanishvili are accused of misappropriation of large sums.

Next trial on the case is scheduled on June 27, 2013.
