Statement of the Public Defender of Georgia about Samtatskaro

The Public Defender of Georgia calls upon Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Irakli Gharibashvili to take immediate, effective measures to avoid attack on Muslim residents of Village Samtatskaro. 

On June 28, 2013 Muslim Friday prayer was held in Village Samtatskaro of the Dedoplistskaro Municipality. Later that day Orthodox Christian residents of the village gathered in protest outside the prayer venue. 

The protesters are gathered outside the house of local Muslim community Mullah, Suliko Khozrevanidze and are asking him to come to them. The situation the village is rather tense and there is a threat of physical violence.
