IDP from Abkhazia Requests to Prosecute Vano Merabishvili and Levan Varshalomidze

July 9, 2013
Maka Malakmadze, Adjara

Chito Kalichava, IDP from Abkhazia has addressed Office of Prosecutor with a complaint. She is requesting to prosecute former head of Adjara government Levan Varshalomidze and former Ministry of Internal Affairs Vano Merabishvili. Plaintiff is accusing former government officials in illegal eviction of IDPs from the hotel Meskheti in 2006 and leaving them homeless for years.

„Housing conditions were horrible. They cut the water and canalization pipes. They forcefully evicted us. Therefore, we are requesting to raise criminal responsibility of head of Adjara government of that time. They had brought additional Special Forces from Samegrelo. If not Vano Merabishvili’s command, law-enforcement would not have acted so unfairly,” – Kalichava stated.

Plaintiff also requests to abolish the term “compensated IDP.” She considers that the compensation 7 thousand dollars that they received at that time was given incorrectly: “In some cases, they unified several rooms to give less compensation than deserved.”

Chito Kalichava talks about illegal privatization of hotel Meskheti. She states that it was government’s illegal decision. Kalichava requests to investigate facts.
