Disagreement between Journalist and Chairman of the Supreme Council to Continue at the Appeal Court

July 30, 2013

Maka Malakmadze, Adjara

Journalist Tariel Tsetskhladze sues chairman of the Adjara Supreme Council at the Appeal Court. Journalist Tseskhladze appealed the verdict passed by the Batumi City Court on June 19. He blames Chairman of the Supreme Council Avtandil Beridze in degrading his honor and professional reputation and requested 3 333 lari as a moral reimbursement.

Tariel Tsetskhladze, journalist: “Batumi City Court concluded that Avtandil Beridze had not degraded my professional reputation when calling me a “liar”. I hope, Kutaisi Appeal Court will pass unbiased judgment. I will appeal every court and demand Avtandil Beridze to publicly declare that I am not liar.”

Batumi office of the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association defends journalist’s rights. Tsetskhladze sued chairman of the Adjara Supreme Council in March of 2013. The incident occurred on January 21, 2013 at the traditional Monday briefing of the Adjara Supreme Council. Beridze called the journalist liar for having published an article “MP Murman Dumbadze’s Relatives Occupy Positions in Adjara.”
