Inmate of Prison # 5 On Hunger-Strike

September 19, 2013

Tamta Tvalavadze

Inmate of the semi-closed and semi-open penitentiary establishment for female prisoners Tamar Talikadze has been on hunger strike for two days already. Talikadze requests to repeatedly study the criminal case she was charged for and asks meeting with the Minister of Justice Thea Tsulukiani, chairperson of the Human Rights Parlimentary Committee Eka Beselia, vice-speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Manana Kobakhidze and member of the Legal Committee Zakaria Kutsnashvili.

Tamar Talikadze was convicted under Articles 260 and 262 of the Criminal Code of Georgia in August of 2007. The article envisages punishment for the transit of narcotic substances both within and ouside the country. Due to aggregation principle based on the Article 59 Part IV, Talikadze was sentenced to 30-year-imprisonment.

On December 28, 2012, based on the Amnesty Law of Georgia, the convicted person had her 30-year-sentence reduced at 1/3. The prisoner believes the Amnesty Law was not properly applied to her and requests to repeatedly study her case.

Tamar Talikadze claims that her health is poor, though she is not going to stop hunger-strike until her requests are satisfied.
