If the president is elected through the first round, the winner candidate will replace Mikheil Saakashvili on the position on November 17.

The inauguration ceremony will take place on that day and the new president will present Georgia at the Vilnius Summit.

In accordance to the Constitution, the new president will take an oath on the third Sunday after being elected.

A leader of the parliamentary majority Vakhtang Khmaladze told Interpresnews that this particular norm in the Constitution means that Inauguration Ceremony will take place on November 17 and as a result the country will have a new president on November 17.

“Mikheil Saakashvili will no longer be the President of Georgia from November 17. So, he cannot travel to the Vilnius Summit as a president,” Khmaladze told IPN.

Mikheil Saakashvili can travel to Vilnius Summit as a president if the second round of the presidential elections is needed in the country. However, Khmaladze said there is “little probability” of the round of presidential election.”

Third Eastern Partnership Summit, where Georgia expects to initial association agreement with EU, will be held on November 28-29, 2013 in Vilnius. Several months ago, Mikheil Saakashvili said that Vilnius Summit will be last summit where he will participate as a president. Presidential candidate of the Georgian Dream Giorgi Margvelashvili also intends to travel to Vilnius as a president, because he is convinced he will win October 27 Elections.
