October 24, 2013

Gvantsa Jikia, Imereti

Kutaisi acting four nongovernmental organizations will monitor 2013 Presidential Elections – Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association, Transparency International – Georgia, International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy and Human Rights Center.

GYLA trained 65 observers in Imereti region. Their representatives will monitor elections in five districts of Imereti region (Kutaisi, Tskaltubo, Bagdati, Samtredia and Terjola).

TI-Georgia will send observers to 52 polling stations in the region. They will also have mobile groups, who will monitor other PSs in case of necessity. TI-Georgia organized working meeting with 15 representatives of the district administrations in Imereti region on human resource policy issues. HR management expert from Sweden led the training for the participants. The purpose of the training was to inform the public servants about restrictions during pre-election period.

As for ISFED, they intend to monitor 30% of polling stations in Imereti region. The organization has experienced personnel, who have been monitoring election procedures during many years. However, organization representatives clarified that their observers rotate and people are selected based on trustworthy, impartiality and political neutralism.

On October 2, the aforementioned organizations and Jumpstart-Georgia presented the election portal. ElectionsPortal.ge will provide interested society with the complex information about elections. The violation map assists the website visitors to see the violations observed by nongovernmental organizations and they will also place information about the violations they observe during the election.

As for Human Rights Center, the observers will monitor elections in Kutaisi, Samtredia, Bagdati, Terjola, Sachkhere, Khoni and Tskaltubo districts.
