Trial on Giorgi Sibashvili’s Case Postponed in Telavi Court

November 12, 2013

Telavi district court postponed trial on Giorgi Sibashvili’s case, former Kakheti regional deputy governor, because prosecutor Giorgi Liluashvili and Judge Mamuka Tsiklauri did not appear at the court. Assistant to the judge explained that Giorgi Liluashvili could not arrive at the trial because of health conditions; Mamuka Tsiklauri had personal problems.

Giorgi Sibashvili claims court proceedings are purposefully dragged on his case.

“Nobody informed me that trial was to be postponed. I arrived here and they said the prosecutor was sick and could not come. They do not even know whether he will manage to come at future trials. Unless he arrives, the case will be assigned to a new prosecutor.  So, the trial will be postponed again because she/he should also study the case. The process is dragged in this way; they do not want to finish the process,” Giorgi Sibashvili said.

Former deputy regional governor is accused of abuse of power, misappropriation of state. He was charged in five episodes. Sibashvili does not plead guilty. Next trial is scheduled at 13:00 pm on November 21.
