Person, suspected of assaulting a policeman, detained

The injured policeman was found in the Zugdidi, Samegrelo region of Georgia, today. The attackers cut off his ears and took off his uniform, an InterpressNews correspondent reported from Zugdidi. The incident took place near a college. The injured policeman was taken to a hospital.

Suspect in the policeman assault incident has been detained, Ministry of Internal Affairs says. The detainee is being questioned, Ministry’s spokesperson Nino Giorgobiani told InterpressNews. The detainee is being interrogated. The person, who the detainee reportedly tried to rape, is also being questioned. A criminal case has been launched into the attempted rape. 

According to InterpressNews information, the injured policeman attempted to rape the fiancé of his best man two days ago at the place where he was found beaten. 

As for the information of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry’s spokesperson says the policeman had a personal conflict with his best man.

“The policeman had a personal conflict with his best man. A criminal case has been launched into the incident. It has already been revealed that the policeman was beaten by his best man. As for the version you mentioned, criminal case was already launched into it. As far as we know the investigation has victims and witnesses too,” the Spokesperson told InterpressNews.
