Imereti regional governor officially started implementation of his duties. Zaza Meparishvili, who was head of Western Georgia’s Regional Service of the State Security Agency of MIA before December 13, held first meeting with media.

“I am accountable before the Parliament of Georgia and Government to implement my duties and responsibilities,” the regional governor said.

Meparishvili focused on the location of the parliament and increased functions of Kutaisi in general. “Moving the parliament to Kutaisi was a mistake. But, I, as a Kutaisi resident, will be sorry if it will be taken back to Tbilisi. Today, Kutaisi looks like a child, who received a sweet but now they intend to take it from him again; so the child is annoyed,” Zaza Meparishvili said.

He believes Kutaisi shall have educational function and be developed in this direction. As for reorganization, Prime-Minister gave him 60 days for it like all previous regional governors. Meparishvili clarified that large-scaled changes will not be implemented; but a competition will be held to conduct the process transparently.
