Member of the Municipal Board Protests Employment of the Members of the National Movement

Nino Mshvidobadze, Lanchkhuti

Member of the Lanchkhuti municipal board and chairwoman of the fraction Georgian Dream-Democrats Maka Kvirkvelia held briefing for journalists. At the briefing, Maka Kvirkvelia informed media and society about creation special positions for the members of the United National Movement by the district governor and chairman of the municipal board.

“They employ people in Lanchkhuti district, who still support the UNM. It is not first fact; it happened in the past too. Whilst district budget does not have enough sources to employ new people, when administrative building of Lanchkhuti district is overcrowded, working places are created for concrete people. Those people are active supporters of the UNM and helped former district governor Gia Goguadze in the elections. I am surprised with the fact that leaders of the Lanchkhuti district assist these people to promote in the positions,” Eka Kvirkvelia said.

She added that short time ago municipal board chairman signed labor contract with former member of the UNM but after she and fraction Respublikelebi (board chairman is member of the fraction) interfered in the matter, the contract was not signed. Kvirkvelia said local senior officials, who occupied positions after the new government came in office, should not do similar things. “I feel moral responsibility before every resident of Lanchkhuti district, who fought [against the previous government] together with us and are still unemployed today. In similar situation, I do not think it is acceptable to create comfort for UNM members. We could find proper candidates among new people and employee them, whose lives and family members were in danger during our struggle. I have no personal discontent with the board chairman and the district governor; I respect both of them but we all have political responsibilities towards people, who are still in the street,” Maka Kvirkvelia said.

Humanrights.ge asked board chairman Amiran Gigineishvili to comment on the issue: “We have not hired anybody and have not signed any contracts with people. Many people apply to us for employment but it does not mean we hire all of them. She should confirm her allegations when blaming us in similar things. Nobody was employed.”
