Lanchkhuti Organization of the Georgian Dream vs Local Government

February 6, 2014

Nino Mshvidobadze, Lanchkhuti

There is controversy between Lanchkhuti district organization of the Georgian Dream and local authority.

A short time ago, deputy district governor Vakhtang Zenaishvili sharply replied to the press-conference of the chairman of the fraction Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia at Lanchkhuti municipal board. Human Rights Center published publication about the press-conference (see humanrights.ge/index.php?a=main&pid=17545&lang=geo).

Zenaishvili wrote in the social network: “Statement of the Mrs. Chairwoman is not only false but also contradicts political interests of the Coalition and the Georgian Dream in particular. I wonder, why do we need similar fraction? Nobody answers my question. I am fully aware that it is difficult to justify activities of the fraction, which is staffed with former members of the United National Movement and established based on mercantile goals. However, Ms. Maka Kvirkvelia does not give in and argues with the opponent to hide her own mistakes. I expect the Lanchkhuti district organization of the Georgian Dream to take adequate measures with regard to the fraction, which has already disregarded basic interests and principles of the Coalition. P.s. Mr. Gogi (leader of the Georgian Dream’s local organization Gogi Gegiadze) too short time is left.”

Gegiadze also held press-conference in response to the statement and said there are 490 honorable members in the local office of the ruling party and it is impossible to find a person who disrespects this political party. “I respect Vakhtang Zenaishvili. He might not like the chairman or the bureau of the political party, but how one can insult the party, which unifies 490 honorable persons in its local office. It is illogical. At least he should praise this political party for having saved and awaken Georgian people,” Gegiadze said.

Gegiadze spoke about incorrect selection of personnel but noted that he and his party did not participate in the process at all. “I do not want any controversy within the Coalition at the approaching local self-governmental elections. Society sees everything and our spirit has mitigated. It was caused by incorrect HR policy, unreasonable activities whose results we have already received. I would like to underline that Georgian Dream’s local office did not interfere in the selection of the employees and will never interfere. Nobody will blame us in Lanchkhuti that somebody was employed based on our recommendation. It was our principal decision and received same recommendation from the central office too,” Gegiadze said claiming the upcoming local self-governmental elections will finally improve situation in every public agency, where members of the United National Movements work. “UNM members work in almost every public agency. We cannot be sure in our victory during the local elections. So, we want to nominate respectful candidates from our party,” Gegiadze said.

After the press-conference, humanrights.ge interviewed deputy governor Vakhtang Zenaishvili.

“Apparently, Mr. Gogi did not attentively read my statement; otherwise he would not have concluded that I criticized local branch office of the Georgian Dream. Even if it happened, there is nothing tragic in it. I complained about the fraction Georgian Dream at the municipal board, which disregards basic interests of the Coalition and Georgian Dream in particular and suggested the political party Georgian Dream to adequately respond to the problem. In my opinion, they should at least cancel the fraction. Why does Mr. Gogi try to misinterpret my statement?”
