Tent of Victimized Mortgagers in Batumi Center

A tent was set up in Era Square, Batumi several days ago. A poster is hanging on the tent – “Mr. Bidzina, you needed votes in the elections and received it; now we need your one voice that will save us from disaster.” Mortgagers gather in the tent every day from 3 to 6 pm and collect signatures for the initiation of the draft law in the parliament of Georgia.

Lili Morchadze, victimized mortgager: “We have been urging the government to give long-term and low-interest loans. We do not ask for presents, we will mortgage our flats.” 

As for the addressee of their poster Bidzina Ivanishvili, the victimized mortgagers think although Ivanishvili is no longer Prime Minister, he still makes decisions.

Government of Georgia refused to assist victimized mortgagers from Batumi. “There are 61 mortgagers in Batumi, 94 in Kobuleti. The government assisted mortgagers from Kobuleti but refused us. If they were victimized during 2008 armed conflict, we also underwent that tragedy,” Morchadze asked.

The tent for mortgagers will stay in Era Square for another month too.
