Chairman of the Kutaisi City Council decided to resign from the position after his decree on the dismissal of the interim mayor was followed with protest demonstrations. Representatives of the nongovernmental organizations and local self-governmental bodies nailed the door of Tamaz Margvelashvili’s working room.
“I made decision after I fully implemented my duties,” Margvelashvili commented after he wrote resignation application.
Several dozens of people gathered in front of the Kutaisi administration building met statement on his resignation with applauses. They had been demanding Margvelashvili to resign all day long.
“Dark epoch has finished in Kutaisi. Similar processes will never happen in this city,” had of Georgian Dream’s Kutaisi office Manana Mikadze said. She believes Margvelashvili resigned from the position as a result of joint effort of Kutaisi residents.
