27 Members of the Georgian Dream’s Akhmeta Organization Left Political Party in Protest

May 15, 2014

Mikheil Mamalashvili, Kakheti

27 members of the Georgian Dream’s Akhmeta office left the political party in protest. They said the party’s election list was reason of their decision, where acting district governor Beka Baidauri is still candidate for the district governor’s position and Mamuka Kholegashvili is first number of the party’s election list.

The political party members blame single-seat MP Zurab Zviadauri in making individual decisions. Activists of the Georgian Dream petitioned to Kakha Kaladze, head of the Coalition’s central office with the request to study the problems.

“Mr. Kakha, list of single-seat candidates is more or less acceptable for us. As for the party list, if it is approved, it will destroy our (coalition’s) reputation in the district. Acting district governor is not acceptable candidature for us. [With him] We will lose elections in Akhmeta. It is inadmissible to have Mamuka Kholegashvili on the top of the party’s list, who was fired from the position of the head of administrative service at the district administration based on the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force Commission because of some violations and not knowing the election law. We kindly request you to take these facts into consideration. Otherwise, single-seat candidates and activists of the Coalition’s local office refuse to continue work for the Coalition’s office and participate in the elections,” the petition reads.

Former member of the Coalition Otar Kvirikashvili said that both district governor and number one on the Georgian Dream’s election list in Akhmeta are MP Zurab Zviadauri’s favorites. Kvirikashvili said nobody supports those people in the district except the MP.

Zurab Zviadauri said he made decision about Beka Baidauri’s candidature in agreement with the Georgian Dream. The MP said he does not know Otar Kvirikashvili and says his accusations are ungrounded.
