Rally to Request Restoration of Justice in Kutaisi

February 10, 2015

Shorena Kakabadze, Kutaisi

On February 6, pedestrian Nana Giglemiani, 19, was crashed by car in Agmashenebeli Avenue in Kutaisi. As a result of the car-crash the girl died on the place. The witnesses say the driver of the car disappeared. A young man was arrested, who as family members claim, is innocent. They claim the law enforcement officers hide the real perpetrator.

“She killed a young girl of 19. Instead stopping the car and assist the girl, she ran away. Police supported her to hide. Patrol police, who arrived on the place in a few seconds, did not do anything to chase the car. They usually do that for the last time,” relatives of the dead girl said.

As relatives clarify, they were informed that a woman was driving the car, which crashed Nana Giglemiani.

“The detained boy is innocent. As people say he has nobody who can protect him and they want to blame him in this tragedy. In fact, a woman killed our girl, who is supported by law enforcement officers because supposedly she is wife of a police officer. Let them get the video-recording and watch it together with us. But it is not acceptable for them and claim cameras could not record the accident because electricity was off in that moment. We will prove that electricity was not off but nobody cares about it. Nobody listens to us. They examined the scene of accident after it was cleaned and all traces smashed,” grandmother of the deceased girl Naira Nanava said.

According to the statement of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the criminal case was launched under Article 276 Part 5 of the Criminal Code of Georgia and the investigation is underway. However, the family of the deceased young girl mistrusts the law enforcement bodies and request impartial investigation of the accident. On February 9, the family members blocked Agmashenebeli Avenue (place of accident) with the request to estimate the truth. Ordinary citizens also joined the relatives, who protested current situation in the country because as they say law enforcement officers serve injustice in Georgia.

“What does prosecutor’s office do? What do investigators do? Why everybody is sleeping when the only daughter of her mother is killed and the murderers run away. As for patrol police officers, they keep eyes blind instead watching and adequately responding to similar facts. This situation will continue until we unify and fight for justice together. Many perpetrators were supported by law enforcement bodies. There are many examples when offenders were not punished and it is time to end. It must be the last accident. The offender must be punished regardless the fact she is family member of a police officer or not. Those investigators and prosecutors should also be punished, who protest the perpetrators and pursue injustice,” the protesters said.

Mother of the deceased girl Rusudan Nanadze said she will apply to the extreme form of protest to estimate the truth and she will not bury her only child until real murderer is arrested.
