Kutaisi Mayor about Campaign Plotted against Him

February 12, 2015

“Smear campaign has started against me. People wish to discredit Kutaisi mayor and the City Hall before society; they do their best to achieve this goal. The campaign is plotted for our discrimination,” Kutaisi Mayor Shota Murgulia said at the special briefing on February 11.

After the announcement, Shota Murgulia blamed former member of the Kutaisi City Council Giorgi Shavgulidze in spreading disinformation about him and in the provocation.

“Shavgulidze is lying when he is saying that I was member of the United National Movement during 2012 parliamentary elections and participated in their election campaign. He wants to mislead society and disseminates some strange photos. If you look at the photos carefully, you will see that they are vague so that people’s faces are not properly seen,” Shota Murgulia said.

Giorgi Shavgulidze was member of the previous Kutaisi City Council; he is former director of The Ilia Chavchavadze Scientific Library. He claims Shota Murgulia realizes ideas of the UNM and states that regardless the decision of the Supreme Court to restore him to the position of the library director, Kutaisi Mayor does not appoint him to the position.

“He has no reason not to restore me to the position. Moreover, there is relevant conclusion of the Supreme Court. I have petitioned to the Kutaisi City Hall, the mayor with the request to restore me to the position several times but in vain. Murgulia issued the order about my case, that is very similar to his predecessors’ orders,” Giorgi Shavgulidze said.

Non-execution of the court judgment is punishable under the Criminal Code of Georgia. However, the legal service of the Kutaisi City Hall states the legal act, which is mentioned by Shavgulidze, does not oblige the City Hall to restore Shavgulidze to the position of the library director, but to ensure him with job.

Giorgi Shavgulidze was resigned from the position of the director at the Ilia Chavchavadze Scientific Library in 2007.
