Parliament intends to form commission to study the case of Sakhdrisi gold mine

Today the law makers discussed creation of the commission to study the issue of the Sakdrisi mine at the parliament session.

According to the UNM member MP Nugzar Tsiklauri, it is important to estimate how legally the status of culture heritage was seized from the mine.

"Two courts have already ruled that the Minister of Culture illegally seized the status of the cultural heritage status from the gold mine. Now it is particularly important that we worked together on this issue. We should find out whether a crime was committed and the place, which was exploded a few months ago, was really a cultural heritage or not. If it is proved, the Parliament should hold every person participating in it responsible,” Nugzar Tsiklauri said.

According to the MP from majority Ani Mirotadze, the decision about creation of the commission was already made and now they must only vote for its members.

Members of the Committee for the Survival of Sakhdrisi Mine will also attend the parliament session today. They hope the parliament will make decision to form the commission.

"If the Parliament does not support the establishment of the Commission, we will have the only way to start protests, rallies and address to the prosecutor's office to investigate the judgment that was ruled by the Appeal Court. The judgment states that the status was illegally terminated,”- stated the member of committee Irakli Mamaladze.

If the parliament majority supports the creation of the commission and elects its members, the Commission will consist of 12 members.
