Confrontation between the Kareli Municipality governor and some of the locals from Ruisi continues. On May 22 the locals gathered near the Ruisi’s section of Tbilisi-Senaki-Leselidze highway, protested abolition of access roads to their plots as a result of construction of autobahn.

According to the locals, notifications about planned demonstration in the village became the reason of confrontation between the governor of Kareli Municipality and some of the locals in Ruisi. Organizers of the demonstration say that the governor summoned them to the office and insulted them.

“He insulted and threatened us because we were planning a demonstration in order to restore the access road to the plots of village. This road was destroyed during construction of the autobahn. The governor Zaza Guliashvili personally threatened me because of the published leaflets, “_ saidthe local of Ruisi Bondo Baliashvili.

The governor of Kareli Municipality Zaza Guliashvili confirms the dispute, but denies the insult and threat: “I have neither insulted nor threatened them, there was a small argument, we are men and this kind of disputes sometimes happens.”

May 22 demonstration near the Ruisi section of Tbilisi-Senaki-Leselidze highway did not pass without incidents. Altercation, between the representatives of Kareli Municipality and protesters, escalated into scuffle. The governor of Kareli Municipality was instructing the police officers to arrest the demonstrators. However the demonstration ended peacefully and police didn’t arrest anyone. The governor promised the protesters to timely resolve the issue. As mentioned by Guliasvhili, he has already started negotiations with the road department on this issue.
