Human Rights Center Has Started a New Project for Prisoners

Human Rights Center has started a new project called “Establishing Psycho-Social Rehabilitation Program for Prisoners in Georgia”.

The project, which aims to promote psychosocial rehabilitation of prisoners, will be implemented in #16 correctional facility of Rustavi. 

According to the project, from July 1 to October 1, a specialist in clay processing will teach the prisoners how to work with clay. They will plan courses together and act coordinated, so that the process had work therapy purpose alongside to acquiring working skills. 

The process of working on clay can help prisoners to relax and develop self-determination and creativity. The prisoners will master the craft and produce things according to their desire independently. After leaving the prison, they will have more chance for employment. 

A staff member selected by the prison will also participate in the project, attend the courses and learn how to work with clay so he/she will be able to teach the craftsmanship to other prisoners in future. 

After the end of the project, the same amount of clay will be purchased and assigned to the prison administration. The facility will also receive a clay-replicating device.  

The project implementation was made possible with financial support under the small grants program of the foundation Global Initiative on Psychiatry- Tbilisi.
