Address of human rights Center to the Minister of Corrections and Legal Assistance of Georgia

July 20, 2015

Human Rights Center expresses concern about the health condition of a prisoner Rati Maisuradze and unbearable conditions of prison N7 where the convict is placed.

The convict Rati Maisuradze has a severe heart disease. A doctor prescribed intensive exercises and fresh air for him, which is impossible in the prison N7. There is an inappropriate infrastructure and unbearable physical environment.

As the convict says, his health condition becomes worse on daily basis.

Rati Maisuradze struggles with Hypoxia; his heart requires additional examinations and treatment, which is impossible under the conditions of the prison N7.
He asks to be transferred to the semi-open facility, where he will be able to perform the doctor’s prescription.

Human Rights Center thinks that the Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance of Georgia is fully responsible for the health condition of Rati Maisuradze.

Human Rights Center calls on:
The Minister of Corrections and Legal Assistance of Georgia to take appropriate measures in order to provide Rati Maisuradze with access to health care, so he will be able to follow the doctor’s prescription.

The Head of Penitentiary Department of the Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance, to transfer Rati Maisuradze to the semi-open facility, so he will be able to follow the doctor’s prescription.
