August 7, 2015
Natia Gogolashvili

On July 1 2015, based on the decision of the local council of the Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance for reviewing cases of women prisoners, the convict L.R was early released from serving the remaining sentence.

“I have spent three years and two months in prison. I was serving the sentence without pleading guilty. I was charged under the article 180 of the Criminal Code. I became subject to early release on July 1 of this year. The commission came, I passed the oral hearing and the result is that I am free now. I thank the parole commission, because they listened very carefully. They expressed sensitiveness and I felt a human support,”-told the released convict to humanrights.ge.

The lawyer of Human Rights Center, Tamar Lukava addressed the local commission of the Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance for reviewing cases of women prisoners, with the request of giving early release to L.R.

“On June 24, on the behalf of the organization, I sent a petition regarding the case of L.R to the local council of the Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance for reviewing cases of women prisoners. I was requesting the early release of the convict, because she was meeting all the requirements provided for by the third section of the article 72 of CC, articles 40 and 42 of Law of Georgia – Imprisonment Code and article 12 of the order N151 issued by the Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance of Georgia,”- said Tamar Lukava.
