The majority of the poisoned are children of ages 2 to 8. On August 5, because of worsening health condition, four children were transferred to the referral hospital of Telavi.

Kvareli hospital confirms the fact of mass poisoning. However, the cause has not been established yet. According to the information of the locals, the cause was the drinking water. Because of this, the water supply company took the samples of water and sent them for a laboratory examination. According to the water supply company, based on the primary analysis, the drinking water is not threat for life. Now they are waiting for the results of microbiological analysis of the water. In 72 hours, it will be known what caused the spread of alleged new form of neo-enterovirus.

The specialist of the National Center for Disease Control are also working in the hospital.
As the manager of Kvareli hospital, Zurab Gauarashvili told to humanrights.ge, the crisis has passed and there are no more new patients with the signs of intoxication: “The situation in the hospital is stable, the crisis has passed. No one was brought after midnight. Total 133 diseased have addressed to us.”

According to the locals of Kvareli, those people were intoxicated who were drinking the water of river “Bursa”. The river source has not been cleaned for years. No one has been drinking this water after the incident and the disease has stopped.
