Press-Conference of Human Rights Center in Gori

May 16, 2016

On May 17, at 11 am, Shida Kartli office of Human Rights Center held a press-conference in the Gori Democratic Engagement Center about the case of local individual entrepreneur, who was victimized by 2008 Russian-Georgian Armed Conflict.

With the legal aid of Human Rights Center, individual entrepreneur Temur Gigashvili appealed the Gori district court to claim reimbursement of material damage. In accordance to the independent audit report, Gigashvili received a damage of 285 620 GEL. To restore the destroyed fish-farm, Temur Gigashvili took a loan of 120 000 GEL in the frame of the state program on cheap credit but now he cannot pay half of it. Eight years have passed and the state has not reimbursed the damage of Temur Gigashvili, which he received during the 2008 August War.

Human Rights Center had several claims in its lawsuit to the district court:

1. Full compensation of the damage;
2. To oblige the Gori district administration to implement its promise (in 2008 the Gori district administration accepted Gigashvili’s application and registered it in the data base. In 2012 the administration refused him to reimburse the damage because they did not have comensation funds in the local budget).

3. To discharge Gigashvili from the second part of the loan if it is impossible to reimburse his damage at this stage.

Temur Gigashvili also participated in the press-conference together with the representatives of Human Rights Center’s local office.
