Shida Kartli Region Was Hailed Six Times in May

May 31, 2016

On May 26, natural disaster devastated fruit and vegetable gardens in 13 villages in Gori municipality and 12 villages in Kareli municipality; Ruisi village was particularly damaged.

“Almost 80% of the harvest was destroyed by the hail. All of us took bank credits to cultivate plots and gardens, which we planned to cover in autumn. Our fruit-gardens, vineyards and vegetable plots are destroyed. We urge the government to compensate the damage so that we could pay the credits,” Ruisi village resident Giorgi Baliashvili said.

Interim Shida Kartli regional governor Ioseb Okromelidze met the population in Ruisi. He said the commissions were already set up in Kareli and Gori municipal administration, who will evaluate the damage, caused by natural disaster and issue the conclusion in near future.

As government representatives said part of the victimized population, who were involved in the agricultural insurance program, will have damage partly reimbursed.

Deputy minister of agriculture also visited the Ruisi village. The locals said he offered the victimized families to pay 180 GEL compensation for 1 hectare of land that was protested by villagers. They said the government’s offer was absolutely irrelevant to their loss.

The villages were hailed in the Ateni Gorge on May 29. Information about concrete amount of damage was not disseminated yet.
