State Security Service Requests Release of Giunashvili

De-facto law enforcement bodies claim the citizen of Georgia is suspected in terrorist activities. The detainee is resident of Disevi village, Giorgi Giunashvili, born in 1978. According to the information of the de-fact state security committee of the occupied South Ossetia, the detainee has been active member of the illegal armed formations of the Georgian special forces since 2004.

The detainee is suspected in the explosion of the shell in 2007. According to the Ossetian sources, on August 11, 2008, he opened fire in the direction of Ossetian soldiers, who patrolled near the village. One of them died and second was badly wounded.

The family members and relatives state the accusations of the Tskhinvali de-facto law enforcement bodies are absurd. They said the charge brought against the detainee one month after the detention is very suspicious and unbelievable.

“Giorgi did not have any connections with the military formations. His house is several meters away from the wirefence, where he was arrested a month ago; now they brought this absurd charge against him. Our government must help him because he is alone there,” a resident of Disevi village Vasil Okropiridze said.
“The occupation forces arrested the person for illegal crossing of the so-called border on June 8. The representatives of the central authority of Georgia raised issue of his release among other issues during the recent IPRM meeting in Ergneti village. The representatives of the occupation forces said so-called investigation was going on into his case. They did not provide us with detailed information. As for the spread information, it is absurd accusation. Giunashvili is arbitrary detainee and until he is released we will permanently raise the issue of his immediate release at the IPRM meetings,” the statement of the SSG.

The family members say Giunashvili has health problems and as a result of arbitrary detention his health conditions will get worse. They call on the Government of Georgia to assist them in estimation the truth and release of innocent Giorgi Giunashvili.
