The district commissions were composed by the activists of the ruling party

“The majority of the independent members of the precinct election commissions in the Kaspi municipality are relatives of public servants and supporters of the Georgian Dream”, - Robert Kavtiashvili, the chairman of the National Movement’s Kaspi Organization, said.

Robert Kavtiashvili claimed, the selection of the commission members based on their political affiliation undermines fair elections, because the members of the district election commission are not independent and there is a high probability that they will fulfill the instructions of the ruling party.

“Shorena Shashaberidze is sister-in-law of Gogi Kentchuashvili, the member of the municipal board from the ruling party. Her husband and brother are the members of the commission as well. Nona Iadze is sister of Oleg Iadze (former Kaspi district governor, member of the Georgian Dream). Besides Shorena and Nona, there are a lot of people in the commission, who work in the public law legal entities, or are activists and supporters of the Georgian Dream”, - Kavtiashvili said.

Representatives of the Kaspi District Election Commission (DEC) #30 say the independent members of the PECs were not chosen based on nepotism or political affiliation. The chairman of the Kaspi DEC explained that the commission, which is composed by qualified political parties, also supported the candidates.

“Applicants for the membership in the precinct election commissions (PECs) wrote only their election-related experience. We took only one circumstance into account, if the candidates had received any reprimand from the DEC during previous elections. Based on the experience, we chose the independent members. We also paid attention to the new faces, who have not participated in the elections yet. However, all of them attended the election administrator’s trainings and relevant certificate proved it. Al in all we have 23 newcomers”, - Nana Noniashvili, the chairwoman of the Kaspi DEC #30 clarified.
