On October 8, during the Parliamentary Elections, the observers criticized the situation in the Precinct #48 of the Marneuli DEC #36. Despite that, the CEC did not question the election results of the polling station.

ISFED evaluated the events developed in front of the precinct #48 as important obstacles for election process.

“Our observers are in the Precinct #48 of the Marneuli DEC #36, where confrontation between citizens took place. The aggressive group tried to violently break into the precinct, but the police prevented it. One citizen and one police officer were injured during the physical confrontation. The stones were thrown at the polling station that damaged the building. The precinct, where commission members and observers were located, is closed and the police guards it.

The single mandate candidate from the political party Paata Burtchuladze-State for People addressed the observers of the mobile group of ISFED. Later, the single mandate candidate from the UNM also addressed the voters. For now, gathered people left the precinct after the members of special designation group arrived. The members of election commission also left the precinct. The process of the voting is stopped”, - the organization wrote in its 18.00 pm report on October 8.

The GYLA’s Kvemo Kartli Office also observed the ballot process in the Marneuli PEC # 48. Their evaluation of the processes coincides with the report of ISFED.

“Especially grave violations took place in the Marneuli precinct #48. Voting was terminated, violence took place and the precinct was stoned, the law enforcement officers were injured outside the polling station, the windows were stoned, the observers were threatened and physically assaulted”, - Ana Natsvlishvili, the head of GYLA, declared.

Humanrights.ge reviewed the observers’ complaints lodged in the Marneuli precinct #48 on October 8. Mikheil Lursmanashvili, lawyer of GYLA’s Rustavi Office, wrote one of the complaints. Lursmanashvili wrote that voters were not marked, the unity of the election box was breached and bulletins were not sealed. Kristine Malania, the observer from the Multinational Georgia, wrote the second complaint. She wrote: “the situation was so tense in the second part of the day that the voting process was terminated. Therefore, the voters, who came afterwards, could not participate in voting”.

Despite the written complaints and the situation outside, the CEC admitted the elections in the precinct #48 as legal and the results were not abolished. The ruling party commented on it. The Georgian Dream declared it is not right to justify the mobilization of up to 100 activists and stoning of the precinct and police officers because of the miscarriages inside the precinct.
