Valeri Gelashvili: “Probably, the second round is my fate…”

October 20, 2016

Valeri Gelashvili, the single mandate candidate from the Georgian Dream in Khashuri municipality, is discontent with the results of the first round. On October 8 he received 4 600 votes. With this result Gelashvili took the second place and Simon Nozadze, the former General of Security Service, outstripped him with 2 710 votes. Nozadze is single mandate candidate from the political party Topadze-Industrials - Our Homeland.

Valeri Gelashvili, who was member of the 3 convocation parliaments, tries to get seat in the parliament for the fourth time. He said the second round is his fate.
“It is the third elections that I have to go in the second round; probably, it is my fate and I will win it again”, - Valeri Gelashvili said and added that his team was working badly and started reorganization of his election bureau before the second round. Gelashvili said Simon Nozadze had based his election campaign based on lies.

“A lot of people trusted Simon Nozadze. I think, he promised everybody to appoint them to the positions of governor or chief police officers. Simon Nozadze did not do anything in this region, but people have to decide and I will respect their choice”, - Valeri Gelashvili declared.
Simon Nozadze refused to respond to aggressive election campaign of the opponent, but he wondered what Valeri Gelashvili, as an MP, had done for Khashuri population.

“I am not going to respond to Valeri Gelashvili. He calls his activities charity, but I am curious, what he did for the Municipality, as a Member of the Parliament”, - Simon Nozadze said.

13 years ago, people from Khashuri municipality had to choose candidates between Gelashvili and Simon Nozadze in the 2003 Parliamentary Elections; Valeri Gelashvili won the ballot then. Zaza Mekhrishvili from Khashuri thinks that the same situation is now and he does not count on any of the candidates.

“Nothing will change for us; it does not matter who will win. On one side, we have three-times MP Valeri Gelashvili, who views Khashuri as his own business, where he has employed 150 local people, but does not do anything else. On the other side, we have Simon Nozadze with KGB background and general-mayor of Security Service. He does not have good reputation either. It is the choice which is not oriented on progress, but on status quo”, - Mekhrishvili said.

Simon Nozadze and Valeri Gelashvili work hard to gain the votes of the people, who supported other candidates in the first round, but their candidates could not go into the second round. Roin Makharoblidze from the UNM is first among them with 3 977 votes. Both single mandate candidates believe they will add his votes to their results.
