Free Democrats withdrew their 385 commission members from 22 DECs. The party leader Tamar Kekenadze clarified it was sort of prevention of the work of their members in the favor of any other political party.

Kekenadze said some illegal deals were observed in the first round of the elections and there were cases when representatives of other political parties worked in favor of the Georgian Dream and UNM in the election commissions.

”Having analyzed the results of the October 8 elections, we had preliminary information that there were some doubts about our members in around 1200 polling stations. Considering the fact that the second round is very soon, we will not be able to study each case in details. For that reason, we withdrew our members from 22 DECs. It is to prevent our representatives to serve the interests of the UNM or Georgian Dream. Different methods were used to gain them over – it happened systematically; our members were oppressed, they were bribed with money or other benefits like employment, covering education fee of their children, etc.

Unlike other DECs, we will keep commission members and representation in Tchiatura municipality and observe the elections there to defend our votes till the end. I had meetings in Adjara, where we were told that one of our members had a deal with the UNM. In general there were facts where people from other political parties worked in favor of the ruling party. It is multi-party deals and we will study them in details after the second round is over,” Tamar Kekenadze told interpresnews.
