Gori municipality governor claims his deputy was fired because of professional negligence. Davot Oniashvili said Giorgi Tsverava did not implement his tasks properly and signed the order on his dismissal on December 21.

“I confirm that I signed the order on the dismissal of my first deputy. I had this right under the law. As for the reason of my decision, I do not want to go into details. However, I will say that he did not implement my instructions properly and decided to fire him,” Oniashvili said.

Giorgi Tsverava told humanrights.ge that he did not expect to be fired.
“After I returned from Poland I have not met and talked with the governor. I have stayed at home for several days because of health problems, I have virus. I have not yet received notification on dismissal. I cannot make additional comments about the fact but it was unexpected decision for me,” Giorgi Tsverava said.

Davit Oniashvili said Giorgi Tsverava was informed about the governor’s remarks about his work and considering that he should not be surprised with the decision.

Local media actively reported about expected personnel changes in the Gori municipal administration, however they spoke about early-dismissal of the directly elected municipal governor and not about the first deputy. Now, everything has changed and Oniashvili is still on his position though fired his ally and first deputy. Gori municipal governor still cannot name who will occupy the vacant position of the first deputy.
