From July 2017, modern two garbage trucks will serve the villages in Tusheti region. As the Akhmeta municipality governor Beka Baidauri reported to Reginfo, the garbage will be collected and transported from the Tusheti region villages once a week.

At the same time, 100 rubbish containers will be placed in the tourist-destination villages – Omalo, Shenako, Dartlo and Diklo.

Beka Baidauri said after the road is open to Tusheti, temporary terminal will be arranged for the solid waste, from where the waste will be reloaded in the rubbish damp of Gulgula village in Telavi municipality.

The Solid Waste Management Company assigned the necessary infrastructure for the management of the household waste to the Akhmeta municipality. 446 thousand GEL was allocated for the purchase of two garbage trucks and 100 garbage containers.

In July, 2016, the local youth petitioned to the Akhmeta municipality board with the request to create solid waste collection and transportation service in Tusheti region. The petition was prepared with the support of the nongovernmental organization Civil Activities Center and was signed by 314 citizens.

Tusheti region population and the signatories of the petition requested arrangements of public toilets in four different spots alongside the Tusheti road. The local authority could not satisfy this request due to limited financial resources in the local budget.
