Energy Ombudsperson’s interim report of monitoring

January 26, 2018

Energy Ombudsperson’s office received 947 complaints against the Gori Gas, local office of the Socar Georgia Gas, from Gori. 190 complaints were not accepted by the Ombudsperson’s office because of the shortcomings in them – on January 25, the Energy Ombudsperson Salome Vardiashvili stated at the press-conference in the Gori Civic Engagement Center. Vardiashvili said the complaints were sent back to the part of consumers, because the personal data were not correctly included in the complaints.

“We notified the citizens about the completion of the case review with official letters. Until the complaints of the consumers are studied the company will not suspend natural gas supply for the consumers,” the ombudsperson said.

The ombudsperson is still studying the main part of the complaints. Salome Vardiashvili said they will estimate what caused the problems raised by the consumers, who complained about inadequately high communal bills.

Part of consumers in Gori protested inadequately high communal bills in December 2017. They blamed the Gori Gas in artificially increased bills.
Gori Gas management members said they could make mistake in separate cases but it cannot be general problem.

In parallel to the protest demonstrations, part of consumers appealed the energy ombudsperson and requested to compare the used natural gas with the communal bills they received in December.
