Trial against the Ministry of Justice for the violation of the rules on the issuance of public information

March 27, 2019
On March 28, at 12:00 pm, the Tbilisi City Court will hear the appeal against the Ministry of Justice. Human Rights Center sued the Ministry over the violation of the rule on the issuance of public information.

HRC applied to the Ministry of Justice for the public information twice but the Ministry did not provide the organization with the requested information.

On November 1, 2018, HRC lawyer Dimitri Nozadze requested public information about the number of convicted persons in Georgia by November 2018 from the Ministry of Justice. The lawyer also requested information how many convicts served their terms in prisons.

HRC repeatedly appealed the Ministry on December 17, 2018 and reminded them to provide the organization with the information, they had requested in their November 1 letter.

The Ministry of Justice has not yet issued the requested information on Human Rights Center.

The Ministry violates the Article 40 of the Administrative Code of Georgia, which obliges the public entity to issue the public information on the applicant within 10 days.

On January 30, 2019 Human Rights Center appealed the Tbilisi City Court and requested to order the Ministry to issue the requested public information on the organization.
