150 Families are Left Without Water and Road

150 families living in the villages of Pheria and Akhalsheni- situated 8 kilometers away from Batumi, applied to Regional Administrative Board and Levan Varshalomidze regarding their problems in water and road. The result of it was arrival of specialists from the region to observe the situation.

“We have large tanks and gather water in it. Besides that, soil water leaks from the ground and we use it to drink. Only ten of 100 families have that soil water and we take drinkable water from them. Though it is little but how can you refuse your neighbor to take water. As soon as it gets hotter, even these drops disappear,”- pointed out Guliko Tarieladze, living in Akhalsheni.

According to population there is a large resource of water in the distance of 7 kilometers from their village, where the population has private hydro-electric power station. “It was still soviet regime when we collected money fro that purpose. We planned to lead out water from Khevrushi (place in the village of Akhalsheni). There is more water there than we need. It was planned to serve 400 families, however it was not done”-recalls Aleksandre Makaradze.

The population asks for help to the government: “we have no facilities in the village and so we need some financial support to buy equipments. We should ourselves work physically,”-says local inhabitant Guram Tsiteladze.

The second problem is- a road. “We do not demand the road lay with asphalt, though it would not do any harm to us either,”-they joke, but their demand is: “If they show a bit mercy to us, the work would be done.”

“This village is not isolated but the road is in such poor condition that mini-bus drivers gave up working here for that reason. Their cars are breaking down on this road and we are sorry for them too. If we have a good road, we would not need to beg the drivers to come,”-says Bulbuli Dumbadze.

The population has to walk 4 kilometers to take transport. “It is a village. We need to go to market. Very often we have filled in the holes ourselves, but it is not enough.”

Two months ago Murman Otiashvili, chief specialist at Architect and Construction Department arrived to investigate the situation on the place from the Khelvachauri regional Administrative Board. “The road problem is easy to solve-it is no problem to gravel the road and it would be done soon enough, but water problem needs thorough observation. I have reported to the councilor, what was assigned to Economical Department, as I think. Afterwards the specialists should calculate the expenses, what takes some time,”-pointed out Otiashvili on the phone.

Otiashvili considers two months enough for such operation, though 150 families are still left without water and road.
