Goods Are Delayed at the Custom House Illegally

November 1, 2006

batoni_malxazi.gifConstruction materials imported by Ltd 'Merkuri' have been delayed by Custom House 'Dasavleti' for four months. Administration of 'Merkuri' thinks that the goods are delayed on purpose.

"The load is at the Custom House and nobody takes decision, they do not even say if we have committed any crime. Their response is that they either could not find the procedures how to release us, or are in the process of making decision and promising to let us go soon. Similar situation has lasted for two months'-stated owner of the Ltd 'Merkuri', Khusein Kamadadze.

Malkhaz Abuladze, Chief of Legal Department of the Company speaks about illegal delay of the goods: "Though the Ltd has performed all the requirements of the legislation, such as to pay custom taxes, the goods are still at the custom house." The company already assesses its losses. "It has mounted to 42 thousand lari. That means the profit which we have not received because of goods being delayed. Ltd Merkuri could have already sold this amount of goods at least three times and the aforementioned sum is the profit which could have been gained by the company having sold three times as much goods. We demand our losses be compensated trough the court,-"stated the Chief of the Legal Department for the Company.

Custom House 'Dasavleti' stated that the company did not produce a declaration when the goods arrived at the customs. "We thought that the prices were reduced, what is to be fined. However the company did not obey the Custom House and appealed the court. Tbilisi Customs Department held hearing on the case. Thus we expected to receive some directives from the Department,"-said Joni Babilodze, Chief of the Regional Custom House 'Dasavleti'.
