Mother of Murdered Son Is Harassed by Relatives of Murderer

Mother of the twenty-three-year-old Reziko Kakhiani, who was murdered in the Baghdadi District in 2002, has been permanently harassed and persecuted since the accident. The woman is suppressed because she has been demanding appropriate punishment for the murderer, Davit Mikaberidze (with the nickname, “Dzrokha”, cow).

Last week, Mimoza Kakhiani applied to the Human Rights Centre’s Kutaisi Office for help after court hearing on Mikaberidze’s case at the Kutaisi Appeal Court. The court room was packed with relatives and supporters of the accused, who insulted Mimoza Kakhiani. They threatened her and stated that she was armed and was going to kill the accused during the trial. The judge Temur Sikharulidze kicked the woman from the court room and the court building too. After that, Mimoza Kakhiani spent several hours in the rain waiting for the verdict of her only son’s murderer.

Mimoza Kakhiani said that before the court proceeding, various people were calling her and threatened with the death. Besides that, the ground floor of her house was suspiciously privatized by Hekate Ltd. The owner of the Ltd, Tinatin Khurtsidze and her family members permanently harassed her. Consequently, the life of the disabled woman has become intolerable in her own house.
Other inhabitants of the house were also damaged by privatization of the accommodation and it resulted into several trials at the Kutaisi Civil Court. However, Mimoza Kakhiani said that everything was arranged against her. “Since they could neither bribe not threaten me, the relatives of my son’s murderers decided to draw my attention to other problem and involve me in argument on the accommodation. It has become impossible for me to live in the house. My health conditions have worsened and several times I nearly survived. However, with the support of the God, I managed to survive,” said Mimoza Kakhiani.

Little time after her son’s murder, the woman was attacked and she got disabled. She can not leave the house: “I have nothing to lose after the terrible murder of my only son. If I struggle to live on because of my great desire to punish the murderer of my son who must be isolated from the society. Besides my son, that man has killed three more young people. I could gather materials and proofs on those murders too. If the mothers of those three young men could have managed to reach justice and place the criminal in the cell, my son would have survived. Now my aim is to protect others’ sons,” said the woman.

The victim woman said that the reason of the suspended investigation is high ranking officials from the Imereti Regional Police Department and Prosecutor’s Office who protect the criminal. Thus she demands to   punish Ruben Asanidze, former head of the Imereti Regional Police Department and Shalva Pkhakadze, former Prosecutor of Kutaisi. Mimoza Kakhiani also demands to investigate the attack on her by a car after what she got disabled.

Although, law enforcers have involved the case and reacted on threatening the woman over the phone, the situation has not ended.

Since the Kutaisi Appeal Court sentenced Mikaberidze to life-imprisonment again, Kakhiani thinks that the murderer and his co-thinkers will try to change the verdict at the Supreme Court in their favor. The victim woman expects the human rights organizations to assist her.
