“Election Carousel” Continues

January 5, 2008
Together with the other violations, so called “carousel” is still actual. There have been observed several mini buses in Tbilisi taking people from one polling station to another. One of the drivers of these mini buses said to Ucha Nanuashvili, executive director of the Human Rights Centre that the National Movement hired him to move people in the city.

Ucha Nanuashvili: “I’ve visited three polling stations since morning - #44. #38 and #63 in Vake. I came across violations in every step. For example, I witnessed that people were not checked on marking. I saw two or three people entering the station without being checked on marking. In addition to that, there are mini buses moving in Tbilisi streets, I even noted down several car numbers - LEV 543, ABT 786; BER 814; NIA 949; SIO-466; COO-486; AEB-471; ABI-999; STS-836; VIV-220; ITI-180; STS-836; LLK-684; these cars are taking people from one polling station to another. I saw them and shot photos even, although it made drivers angry. They told me that we have contract with the National Movement and if you pay us, we can serve you as well.” According to Nanuashvili, the driver who was very much frustrated with the questions, torn and burned the document where there was indicated his name as a hired driver by the National Movement.
