Black List of Voter Riggers -Giorgi Mosidze Names Exact People

May 8, 2008

 Giorgi Mosidze

Saba Tsitsikashvili, Gori

Giorgi Mosidze, a single mandate candidate from the United Opposition in Gori District began his interview with the Human Rights Center by saying that the government intends to carry out elections in the Shoda Kartli Region with the support of so-called criminal authorities. Mosidze spoke about the policy of law enforcers who especially released people from prisons in order to gain their families and their support for the lists of candidates from the ruling National party.

Giorgi Mosidze also stated that candidate from the National Movement refuses to take part in the debates. Lado Vardzelashvili, the Regional Governor, is ready to debate with him though it is uncertain how TV debates between single mandate candidates will be arranged. This is an issue that must be clarified before the elections of May 21. However, representatives of the local TV Company stated that there have been some serious negotiations about TV Debates but still these anticipated debates have not been scheduled yet.

Giorgi Mosidze draws his attention to unequal level for candidates provided by TV Companies.

Giorgi Mosidze: “it is nice that central media sources have stopped their boycott against the United Opposition, which is something rather too strange for the history of world political activities. As for upcoming parliamentary, our main assessment of the process is that it will be as before with complete vote rigging, which was only too evident during the presidential elections of January 5. We, together with the OSCE Observation Mission, complained about how the commissions were registered at the Gori Precinct Election Commission. Evidently, they have elected the same people as chairpersons of the earlier commissions who had rigged the presidential elections. We have learned that officials from the regional police department and Security Department meet the chairpersons of the commissions and ask how many votes they can gather in favor of the ruling party. They are ordered to provide concrete result that will result in 70 % of the ballots favor of the National Movement.”

Mosidze warns every chairperson of the commissions in Gori District that falsification of election results is envisaged under the Criminal Code and he names concrete people who are professional riggers in the Gori District.
