Noghaideli’s Party Blames Government in Terrorizing Their Supporters

February 23, 2010

Gela Mtivlishvili, Kakheti

Movement for Just Georgia blames the government in terrorizing their supporters. According to the press-center of the opposition party, as a result of intimidation, 19 activists left their Gurjaani district organization. Their three supporters were fired from work. The press center reported that administration of the Gemo Ltd and Vashlovani Reserved Territory categorically deny the information.

According to the opposition party, activists are threatened, blackmailed and intimidated almost every day. “The government is hunting particularly those agitators who were trained and participated in the program “Door to Door,” said Levan Khaziuri, Kakheti region coordinator of the opposition party.

“On February 14-16, agitators of the movement in Gurjaani district – Marine Kobiashvili, Nona Meleksishvili, Mari Chakhoshvili, Nutsa Kaisashvili, Lia Kobiashvili, Tsitso Ghviniashvili, Ramaz Utiashvili, Lili Basilashvili, Tsiala Kvezereli, Mikheil Datuashvili, Elene Petrozashvili, Natela Bitskinashvili, Mamuka Koshadze, Davit Zveriashvili, Lali Dzibelashvili, Neli Tevdorashvili and Lali Imerlishvili – were threatened with imprisonment as “members of traitor party.”

Trained agitators of the party Lali Ortoidze and Eter Zardiashvili worked in the meat-factory of individual entrepreneur Zaza Chachukashvili in Gurjaani. “District inspector met Zaza Chachukashvili and requested him to fire the members of Zurab Noghaideli’s party unless they left the party. Unless the entrepreneur obeyed his request, he threatened Chachukashvili too,” statement of the press-center.

“One more agitator Marine Jikurishvili finished her training on February 14 but next day she refused to participate in the program “Door to Door.” Husband of Jikurishvili was threatened with dismissal from the work. Zviad Jobinashvili, who is security guard of Gurjaani branch office of People’s Bank, preferred to request his wife to stop cooperation with the opposition party instead losing his job.
Activist of the movement Koba Kurtanidze from the village of Melaani in Gurjaani district was threatened by the village governor Valeri Iromashvili. Unless Kurtanidze left the opposition party, he and his wife would be fired and face some problems,” reported the press-center of Noghaideli’s party.

According to their information, party members were oppressed in Dedoplistskaro district too. “Former member of the party Nato Kachashvili, who was guide in Vashlovani Reserve, was fired.

“A citizen, who wanted to join the party, finally refused to join it because he was afraid to lose social allowance,” said regional coordinator of the opposition party Levan Khaziuri. The movement for Just Georgia requests legal responsibility for the oppression of citizens because of party membership.

Administration director of Vashlovani Reserve Merab Pirosmanashvili and head of Gemo, Ltd Zaza Chachukashvili categorically deny the accusations.

Merab Pirosmanishvili stated that labor agreement with Nato Kachashvili expired. “We work seasonally. Mainly we work in summer. As soon as tourists start to visit the Reserve, we will recruit Kachashvili again,” said Pirosmanashvili.

“Lali Ortoidze and Eter Zardiashvili still work. They were not fired. The information spread by the party is false,” said Zaza Chachukashvili.

Lali Ortoidze denies her connection with Noghaideli’s party. She said one of the agitators of the party lives next to her; but, nobody has ever offered her anything; neither has she attended a training of the party nor she has been an agitator.
