Giorgi Baramia: “We Call Upon You, Abkhaz People, Lets Us Stand Up Against Common Enemy Together”

March 5, 2010

On March 3, chairperson of Abkhazian legitimate authority Giorgi Baramia appealed to Georgian citizens from historical land of Levil in France. We publish the text of his appeal:

“I am greeting you from France, from historical land of Levil which is symbol of struggle for the independence of Georgia. Here, patriots of their homeland did not stop thinking about the welfare of their country. In the 1920s Bolshevik Russia finished its aggression towards independent Georgia by final invasion. Although Russia recognized the independence of Georgia recognized on May 7, 1920, they later breached the agreement.

Today, I want to appeal to you, my dear Georgian people, from this historical land! My appeal is mostly dedicated to the population of occupied Abkhazia! We are standing near the grave of famous Abkhaz man, most honorable son of Georgia Arzakan Emukhvari who was the first chairperson of autonomous government of democrat Abkhazia. Arzakan Emukhvari is lying on Georgian cemetery of Levil next to Noe Jordania’s grave. He could not put up with the occupation of Georgia and preferred to die in migration instead losing freedom. These heroes, far from their homeland, fought for their country even during displacement. Georgian, Abkhaz and Ossetian peoples had common aim – independence of Georgia!

I appeal to you, Abkhaz people, let us stand up our common enemy together, which intends to defeat Abkhaz and Georgian peoples and to separate us from each other for ever! The results of Russian politics are evident: Abkhaz people cannot live on their land; rusification process is going on intensively; Abkhazian language, culture, traditions and national independence are going on very determinedly; Abkhazian people are victims of genocide; the interests of original population of Abkhazia were ignored. Nothing can stand up the people’s power. So we call upon you once more to resist this illegality which is happening in Abkhazia; we should inform entire world about current situation and request restoration of historical justice in Abkhazia!

Being in Levil, I want to recall the support of France to Georgia in 1920s and in August of 2008. France together with international community condemned occupation of Georgian territories by Russia and took active part in hindering this aggression. Currently, President Dimitry Medvedev is on his official visit in France and president Sarkozy demanded him once more to fulfill the 6-poiint cease-fire agreement.

It is March 3 today and Georgia celebrates Mother’s Day. I want to hug Abkhaz and Georgian mothers whose sons were sacrificed to the war between brothers - mother can benefit into implementation of huge mission of our unification because word of mother of dead son has more influence than a bullet shot to frighten occupant. Now, our homeland urgently needs patriots who will continue the work of their famous predecessor Arzakan Emukhvari. Our compatriots, Abkhaz sisters and brother, please stand up stubbornly and firmly in support of our common interest and future.

God Will Save Us! Antsa Hainha It!
