Zviad Dzidziguri: “I Calmed Down the Situation By Shooting”

May 11, 2010
At night of May 7, the incident occurred near the house of the candidate for the city mayor from the National Council. The activists of the ruling party claim they were posting the posters of the National Movement in Cholokashvili Street when Zviad Dzidziguri approached them. Initially, he insulted and then physically assaulted them. Later, he shot in their direction four times. Zviad Dzidziguri confirmed that he shot during the incident in front of his house. He said, he has permission on he fire=gun and always has it with him,” wrote the newspaper Resonance in the article “Zviad Dzidziguri: “I Shot in the Air”/ “Let Them Provoke Me Wherever They Want But Never Provoke My Family”.

“Late at night, my neighbors and the activists of the National Movement had argument about posters.  I interfered in their quarrel to calm them down but as soon as they saw me, the activists called “cute boys”, who had guns and were dressed in civil clothes; about 50 people attacked me. I retreated until I managed but at my gate I did not retreat and shot in the air; those people ran away. It was their reply to our today’s protest against the Police Day. It was joint action of the MIA, the National Movement and their journalists. We finally managed to put the children in bed and at about 2:00 am it was bell on the door; the children woke up. It was nightmare,” said Zviad Dzidziguri in his interview with the journalist.

“There is no problem. I am ready for similar scenarios. Everybody should know that I will protect my family. I am ready for everything and I have proved it many times throughout my life. It was not first incident; once drunken activists of the ruling party rushed into my yard and tried to get into my house. On that day, my neighbors protected me from provocation; in another occasion, people threw eggs at my windows and cursed loudly; but last night incident was very organized and large-scaled attack. I state once more, I am ready for every struggle, but nobody should dare to provoke me near my house,” said Zviad Dzidziguri. He was asked whether he recognized any of those people and he replied: “Everybody, who were interviewed by the TV-journalists and blamed me in acting nastily are members of the National Movement. I want to say that our most important message to the voters is that through the dialogue with Russia we are going to resolve many problems. The government does not appreciate our intention but it is acceptable for the people. Mikheil Saakashvili is concerned by this fact. That’s why, they are particularly focused on the National Council. We are oppressed by the government but we are not afraid and are going to do our job to the end.
