Two Students from Batumi have been detained in Tbilisi

Yesterday two students from Ajara were detained by Vake-Saburtalo police and charged with illegally transporting weapons.

Two days ago, students from Batumi – Chakhvadze and Mikeladze, who had spoken to journalists and students regarding the existing situation in Batumi, disappeared from the hotel “Ajara”. According to a statement from the head of the press service Agordzineba (Revival) Tbilisi, the students were taken from the territory of the hotel Ajara by unidentified persons. It was later disclosed that they had been detained at the police department and charged with illegally transporting weapons.

Today at a meeting in the office of  “Chveni Ajara”, the Mayor of Batumi, Giorgi Abashidze, condemned the event and claimed the arrest was politically motivated.

Also today, Hamlet Chipashvili held a press conference at the office of Ajara representatives in Tbilisi, where he stated that the detention of Chakhvadze and Mikeladze was illegal, since no weapons had been found.
