Staff of the “Sakinform” News Agency on Strike

Three days ago, the staff of “Sakinform” (Georgian State Information Agency) began a hunger-strike, and demanded to meet with President Saakashvili. Zaza Talakhadze, the former head of the agency, announced the dismissal of the entire staff on April 30. Striking staff members want President Saakashvili to reject the dismissal.

The new leadership of the “Sakinform” plans to take the age and foreign language knowledge of candidates into consideration when selecting new staff members.
