Three Months Pre-trial Detention to the Guards of Abashidze

Batumi City Court has sentenced three of the Abashidzes’ guards to three months pre-detention. Imeda Khozrevanidze, Kakha Gogmachadze and Ruslan Lomsadze were detained near Aslan Abashidze’s (the former head of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara) house on June 21. The Investigating Department of the Interior Ministry of Adjara accused them of illegally transporting weapons. The penal case was launched under Article 136 of the Criminal Code which envisages 5 months imprisonment.
The families and relatives of the detainees protested the court decision by trying to block the road in front of the Interior Ministry of Adjara. They demanded a meeting with the Interior Minister of Adjara. The parents of the detainees state that the police deliberately put the guns on the accused.
The police dispersed the action.
The attorneys of the detainees consider the court decision to be unjust and illegal and are going to appeal to the Supreme Court.
