Abkhazians Break the Agreement Again

Sukhumi. 27.07.04. Media News.

Large scale military trainings have started in Abkhazia. According to Viacheslav Eshba, Defense Minister of Sukhumi De Facto Government, approx. 15 thousand soldiers and reservists have participated in the trainings.
Viacheslav Eshba stated that the trainings have nothing to do with the situation in South Ossetia and that the trainings were planned in 2003.

“We always check the readiness of the republic for the struggle,”said Eshba and added that the trainings will not be held on the territory controlled by the Russian peacekeepers.

In regard with the abovementioned, the Georgian side has already sent a protest letter to Haidi Taliavini, a Special Representative of UN Secretary General in Georgia. According to State Minister Giorgi Khaindrava, holding military trainings in Abkhazia breaks the agreement which considers these actions in the conflict zone inadmissible.

The military trainings will finish on July 31.
