Ossettians Kidnapped and Severely Tortured a Man Who Intended to Pray

On August 30, employees of the Interior Ministry of the separatist government of South Ossettia  kidnapped I. M. residing in the village Eredvi. The incident took place near Eredvi at the Tsveriakho Mountain. I. M. had candles with him as he wanted to pray.

I. M. was being inflicted physical injuries during the whole night in the building of the Interior Ministry of Tskhinvali. Besides the fact that he had been illegally detained, he was severely tortured.

Due to the fact people of the village Eredvi stopped the bus in which there were Ossettian residents of Tskhinvali region. The bus had the route - Dmenisi-Tskhinvali. Residents of Eredvi demanded the release of I. M.

According to Irina Gagloeva, the Head of Information and Publishing Department of “South Osettia” Georgian law enforcements detained the abovementioned bus but Aleko Sukhitashvili, the Head of Regional Police Department of Shida Kartli does not confirm the fact.

Early on August 31, 2004 the Georgian side conducted negotiations with the Ossetian side and as a result I. M. was released at about 10 o’clock in the morning.

For the moment he is in hospital.
